1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Zine or a Book? Either way, it is excellent. By Fred Adelman It took me two days to read this issue cover to cover, but mans, was it worth it. Lots of interesting things in this issue, my favorite being the SyFy series of "Maneater" films (not all of them are bad, folks; my favorite being the irresistible WYVERN - 2009), written and reviewed by Brian Harris and Christos Mouroukis. I really agree with their assessments of most of this giant pile of films. Hell, I own a lot of them on DVD. Yes, the CGI is bad on most of them, but you would be surprised how good the CGI is on some of the films. If you want to see the films as they should be seen, skip the SyFy TV versions and buy the DVDs. They are very cheap and worth the money. There's also a great article (by Anthony Thorne) on the early films of Umberto Lenzi; Troma films released on Greek VHS, a great article on Godfrey Ho; Wrestling stars who became popular horror and action film stars (my love for Dwayne Johnson has no end); films about Charles Manson; Tony Strauss' article on the little-seen THE LEGEND OF HILLBILLY JOHN (hard to believe this was Rated G! I have it on New World VHS.); Stephen R. Bissette's lengthy article on the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and the Red Planet Mars (you really have to read it to understand it); the films of Jess Franco & Soledad Miranda (not surprisingly written by Francophile Troy Howarth); The films of Filipino director Bobby A. Suarez by my friend Andrew Leavold (who knows more about Filipino cinema than anyone I know, making this a tie for my favorite article in this issue); and more articles and a section for film reviews. This 210 page monster is worth every penny. I bought the black & white version, but this is the first issue also offered in full color (a little too expensive for me). This is the reason why WENG'S CHOP was picked as my best zine of 2014 and they keep on getting better. What the heck are you waiting for? But this sucker!
