She has gifted us all with her witness of abuse and the spirit of love that has honored her past to improve her future. Her wisdom to know the good in herself in the face of spiritual sickness from the guardians of her youth is a tribute to the blessing of who she is--from a child of wonder to a woman seasoned to love more, not less, after an abusive childhood. In Battered but not Fried Marla describes a world of hurt and deprivation in a way that resonates with the woman of wisdom that she became. Her journey has much to tell her readers about honoring oneself, and having the courage to stand up for love.This book is a powerful story, written simply, that can inspire any reader. People who are involved with bringing courage and hope to abusive relationships might find it relevant, not only to reveal the spiritual wasteland of addiction, but the courage that fuels those who survive, who love or must live with others who suffer from it.
