PG romances are not my cup of tea By Roni I like books and movies set during WW2 so when I saw this one I was excited to read it plus the only reviews at the time (2) gave 5 stars with glowing reviews. One day I'm going to learn to not rely on reviews because I seem to keep getting let down by the books that people praise and give 5 stars. To me this was just an average read. The secondary character's take up far too much time in the book for my liking. Also this is a PG book and I personally don't like PG books when it's about a romance that develops between two characters. Since I had never read a book by this author I decided to look at the writer's Amazon profile and in her bio it says....."Some of my work is romantic with light sensual sex scenes, and some are featured with stronger explicit sex scenes and coarse language to intensify the drama." So does the author consider a kiss (that doesn't mention what kind of kiss we are talking about) and a touch of a thigh "light sensual sex" because I sure don't. It doesn't have to be erotica or anything but fade to black after a kiss gives the reader absolutely no insight to the emotions the characters are going through. One character had never even been kissed and neither have had sex with a woman before so the emotions are VERY darn important. I found it odd that the author greatly detailed so many trivial things like how one characters father started a fire (it was pretty descriptive) but when it comes to the actual intimacy in the romance it is just skipped over?!?!? The characters tell each other they love one another but as a reader you don't get that love. I was going to give this 2 stars but then decided to go with 3 since the author didn't technically label it as a romance; even though, the title implies it's a romance. Since it was labeled as fiction I'll go with 3 stars.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. a great new story By mr dead This one is a whole other flavour for the authors writing. In the ominous backdrop of London during world war two, families are asking out survival as the bombs come down at random from over head. During the sadness and the lottery of survival two women meet in a bomb shelter while the walls are shaking around them. That is the general theme of the story but there is not to come with this one. The new couple, happily come together, run into possibly the most unusual complication and with so much tragedy all around them it seems like any bit of happy is a struggle to keep hold ofIf you have read any of the writers other books I would say try this one too. You will be glad you did
