About the Author Joan L Sample was born in Memphis Tennessee, and grew up in New York. Joan's first novel, Life, Will It Take Me Under? A novel that was inspired by an HBO special of runaway's living on the streets. It is a novel of hope and second chances. Joan just finished her second novel, titled 'Malevolence Thy Name is Karen'. This novel takes readers into the mind of a murderous creature, a soul stealer. The soul stealer is a demonic spirit that kills the soul of newborns moments before its birth and replaces it with its own murderous soul. The soul stealer is born to the unsuspecting parents in place of its innocent newborn. Its purpose is to bring devastation to the world. Joan is currently writing her third novel, titled Beyond the Grave: A Novel of Secrets Past. Furthermore, Joan has started a novella that portrays the plight of shelter animals in the United States. It is touching, and profound. This novella is dear to Joan's heart. It is Joan's hope that this novella will increase animal adoptions.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great Book By Frederick I don't normally read the urban novel, but a friend recommended it to me so I gave it a try and quite surprisingly, I loved it. I would like to see what else the author Joan L Sample has out there.

When I read the first sentence and realized the location was Brooklyn and Gates Avenue of all places, I knew I was in for a good read because I know Brooklyn and I know Gates Ave. This is the story of Kim, a good girl that turns bad. The story is clearly written and moves at a gentle pace as we watch the effects of the wrong influences enter into an angelic household. The story is told from the narrative of the little sister Jade. You can feel the love as she guides us through the life of her sister. The story handles well the effects of negative people entering into the lives of positive people. In many cases as with Kim, the negative influences effect the entire household of the person involved. The characters are well developed. We get to understand their thoughts, feelings and motives. There are twists and turns throughout the book. Many of them based on the decisions that Kim makes in her life. This book is a good gift for any young woman that lives in one of the urban cities. I recommend it highly. It is a warning and a tale of caution. Both parents and young adults can get something from reading this book.
