Forgotten Faces of Fantastic Films explores the lives and careers of 22 individuals who inhabited the laboratories, jungles, haunted houses and other eerie settings that characterized classic horror and fantasy cinema. Not only are their horror roles examined, but also their upbringing, education and theatrical background leading to their film careers. By MEQ81 This book features wonderful photos supplemented by incredible research as the author strives to bring recognition to neglected character actors and actresses. Although a great deal of space is given to film and theater titles and credits, there are also many intriguing human interest stories about the various performers. The reader learns about William V. Mong's passion for raising animals, particularly his prized pigs. The story is told of how Edgar Norton and his wife owned the rights to "Alice in Wonderland" and sold them to Paramount. It was fascinating to read about Noble Johnson - how he helped start the first black film corporation, ran into resistance from Universal, played many memorable characters, and then completely turned his back on the movie industry. One comes to appreciate the struggles of Maude Eburne and some of the others haunting casting offices and playing obscure towns in the hinterlands before finally breaking into films. Some, like Wyrley Birch, toured Australia, South Africa and elsewhere before making a mark on screen. You can pick up many books and reference works to learn about Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh - but where else can you read about Charles Irwin and George Rosener? There are tales of courage and disappointment - but all deserving to be told.

By RAD A very special book that will delight both the hard core film buff and the casual lover of old movies.Coughlin clearly knows his stuff - as has been demonstrated in several of his previous works. He provides thoughtful, well researched information about the actors highlighted in the book, combined with wonderful anecdotes and side stories of their lives. Chock full of amazing photos/stills which will tickle memories of when you first encountered these individuals and the films they were in. Great fun.
