About the Author Randy Deutsch AIA, LEED AP is an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he is a scholar-practitioner in architectural technology. He is a BIM Strategist, IPD Advocate and architect responsible for the design of over 100 large, complex sustainable projects. His designs and writing have appeared in Architectural Record, DesignIntelligence and other periodicals. Randy authored the chapter on Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) in the Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice 15th Edition. Randy is the author of BIM and Integrated Design: Strategies for Architectural Practice (Wiley, 2011) and the forthcoming book, Data Driven Design and Construction: 25 Strategies for Capturing, Analyzing and Applying Building Data (Wiley, 2015.) He served on the Chicago Architectural Club's Board of Directors and AIA Chicago Board as Director and Vice President. By 06CorvetteGuy Randy has diligently interviewed and processed a multitude of leading experts in the field of data. If you are an AEC firm looking to take the next step AFTER your next step this is the book for you. I recently came back from Autodesk University 2015 and several of the people mentioned in this book were not only speaking on this subject, but were demonstrating it live! Buckle up for a brain-dense read and its ok if some of it doesn't make sense right away. Better to be hit with the knowledge gently now, than be ambushed by it later. In this book you will learn about how so many firms are leveraging data and applying it to their workflows and culture. Even if you don't absorb all 25, there are more than enough strategies to glean from this book. You will look back in 5 years and see everything said in this book become mainstream and the "new norm" in architecture. Or else, as Brian Ringley put it, "Bye bye."

A must read for architects By Michael Kilkelly This book is a must-read for architects who want to remain competitive and viable in the foreseeable future. Data is everywhere. As architects, we generate a considerable amount of it in our daily practice. Randy's prescient book points out how we architects can capitalize on the data we're generating to design better buildings with fewer resources. Full disclosure - one of my projects appears in the book. That said, I've experienced first-hand the value of capturing and analyzing data in my own practice. I applaud Randy for the research and effort he put into the book. It's thorough and well-written. Yes, the images aren't in color, but that doesn't take away from the importance and timeliness of its message. I highly recommend "Data-Driven Design and Construction".

Good for Those Interested in AECO + Data, Not Great for Those Desiring Concrete Steps Moving Forward By Amazon Customer The book has lots of great interviews with AECO industry leaders discussing how they use data, but it lacks concrete evidence for ways your firm can use data going forwards or examples to follow. Also, the book will contain random shoutouts from these interviews that just take up more space in the book. The book can adequately be summed up in three parts: Sefaira, BIM, Industry Interviews.
