Seven Cities Far From Sober can be described as a cross between a travel log, a story of friendship and the crazy adventures had on holiday by two women and, of course, no story of this type would be complete without a little romance. The story revolves around an unlikely friendship between the two main characters, Madison Alexandra Huntington-Jones and Sophie Anderson, each with their own unique personality that differ greatly from the other's - the former being a beautiful but extremely awkward creature while the later has all the confidence of Soberton itself. And Soberton, which here is a fictional village set in West Sussex, is the place where this all starts when a coincidental meeting brings them together by the one thing they have in common - family issues. The two then move away separately and lose touch, but another fateful meeting reunites them once again and they become friends. This friendship takes them on their adventures in the seven cites, London, Bangkok, Vegas, New York, Hong Kong, Kyoto and Rome with a few other detours on the way. Their adventures include gate crashing a wedding in New York to breaking up a marriage to be in Vegas, from being mugged in China to stealing the show in Italy, from taking on a law firm in London to discovering insider dealing in Japan – their alcohol induced escapades certainly do tend to lead to some extreme situations. Although this mainly is a comical tale of friendship and romance, both from the types of characters and the events that occur, the issues the two heroines face lead to their development and form the path they take in their lives. And along the way to finding themselves, they also manage to find love. This is a book that will make people laugh, make people cry and, above all, will make people want to live their lives to the fullest - after all, the best way to live life is to create your own adventures.

Seven Cities far From Sober by Sahana Mehra is a hilarious and adventurous thrill ride about friendship, travelling the world, finding love and reconnecting with family. Two unlikely friends, Sophie Anderson and Maddie Huntington-Jones, cross paths one fateful night and become lifelong friends. Each section of the book takes place in a different location, starting from their small affluent village of Soberton, England all the way to Kyoto, Japan. And in between these places, the two women meet up in a different city for various reasons, including a bachelorette party gone awry and a drunken get together with Maddie’s brother in Bangkok. In each city mishaps and misunderstandings occur, as well as romance, and bonding between two best friends.Sophie is a larger than life character, the rebel without a cause. Harboring the deep pain of being abandoned by a motherly figure in her life, she assumes the motherly role towards the hapless Maddie, and the circle of color characters that they come across. Maddie, on the other hand, has low self-confidence stemming from the fact that her own family has it in abundance. She has been suffocating under the shadow of her beautiful mother and successful older brother, and she uses her trips abroad as a means for finding her own self.Both Sophie and Maddie trek their way through exotic destinations and come across colorful characters and situations that test their friendship. The duo’s travels come with a lot of things that many world travelers will identify with—including falling into tourist traps, language barriers, delayed flights. There were also many anecdotes about the joys of travelling, such as meeting other travelers from other parts of the world and forming a connection that surpasses international borders.Sophie conceals her sensitive side with her rough exterior and Maddie is hapless and always finds herself in trouble. But their misgivings make them very likable as characters. Although there is a lot of romantic elements to this story, Seven Cities Far from Sober, is a good reminder that there many types of love in this world, including the kind you share with your best friend.
