About the Author Steve Kaufman was born April 20, 1957 in New York City. He was introduced to music by his father, a jazz pianist, and his mother, a classically trained pianist. At the age of four, Steve started to play the piano and later moved on to the cello. At 10 he began playing the guitar, but after a few years of strumming, he put the guitar under the bed. At 14, Steve started "picking" the guitar and he has not put it down since.
Steve is the only three time winner of the prestigious National Flatpicking Championships held in Winfield, Kansas. His music covers a broad range of styles. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Basic Flat Picking By Mike 1900 This is a GREAT DVD for all levels of player. For a beginner, this will really jump start your learning. Digest this DVD and book and it'll keep you busy for 6 months of intensive learning...AND you'll be learning the right way. The intermediate player might consider this DVD as a technique checkup. Lots of neat runs and picking technique. Steve Kaufman is one of the best!

(Steve deserves better, the DVD does not.)• The picture quality of the DVD is not up to today’s standards.• There are no split screens with close ups of the left hand.• Sometimes it is impossible to see what the left hand is doing.Also ‘Warning’ do not get the DVD without the book, some come as a combination package and some do not, (some come as DVD only).You definitely need the book, there is too much too fast, to understand a lot of what is going on.Also, throughout the DVD, Steve keeps references page numbers in the book.
