"Do Not Bend" is a book about a forty-two year journey which began for me at the age of fifteen when I joined Australia Post. After working in Post for all those years, my memoirs are now documented in a series of short stories about daily happenings of fun, friendship, deception, costly mistakes, infidelity, death, stalking, violence, depression, work place feuds and how 9/11 affected Australia Post. I begin with a brief history about my family and their lives in Sicily just after the Second World War. I also tell a little of how my Father journeyed to Australia, ahead of Mum and my two Brothers, to start a new life here. One year after mum and Dad were re-united I was born and our Family settled in North Melbourne. I explain the reason for dropping out of school at the age of fifteen, and why I applied for work with two Government bodies. Australia Post took me in and I am still happily employed there today. My first day of training was with another boy and we have remained close friends to this day. My work stories begin from this point as a young teenager trying to not only find his feet in a man's world, but to impress his peers as well. I made a few errors in my first two years as a Telegram Boy, and even came close to being sacked a couple of times. I learned from my mistakes and I go on to tell how I set out to prove to everyone that I could be the best Postal Employee that anyone has ever known. My first few chapters cover my position as a Telegram Boy before being transferred to the Postman's position. it is here that my stories go to another level as I am now a young adult. I write a few chapters about some of the individuals that played a huge part in my working life as each had their own unique style and character which relays many humorous moments in these stories. I also cover the sad and sometimes tragic tales that I have been a part of. However I believe that my best stories are about the most unexpected occurrences that happen out on the round and without any warning. Names of individuals have been changed to protect their privacy. This book contains occasional Course Language.
