About the Author Michael Fridgen was born in Stearns County, Minnesota, the same place as his hero and role model, Sinclair Lewis, who was the first American to win the Nobel Prize for literature.Fridgen received his undergraduate degree from University of Minnesota and his master's degree from Hamline University. He worked as a public school teacher for twelve years and at the University of Minnesota Rochester for five years. He currently writes full-time.An avid traveler who has visited all fifty states and six continents, Fridgen's book Dollywood and Beyond made Amazon's list of best-selling travel books. By DO1972 Another amazing book by Michael Fridgen. College Street is written as a satirical takedown of higher education. It is told in the same style that Sinclair Lewis used in his masterpiece Main Street. Using humor and language to show the ridiculous state of higher education in the United States, Fridgen manages to educate the reader and entertain him along the way. College Street is about a fictional university in the Midwest (ala Sinclair Lewis style) and all of its flaws - from the President and Board down to the tenured staff and campus organizations. This book is for anyone, whether they went to college or not, they will enjoy learning about the absurdities of university life. If you are in college or recently graduated (students or faculty), then this book is a must-read as you will see everything wrong about college in its pages. I have loved Sinclair Lewis and never thought another author could match his style of being funny yet taking on a serious topic in a fictional world, but Fridgen has done it!

Taking on a covert mission for a radio station involves a move to a new location and a new career for Matthew. The story is an engaging and riveting story of personal relationships and a life change, but there is more. Thrust into the world of higher education, his tale is an eye-opening view of administrative practices promoting personal narcissism, profit margins and a carefully orchestrated public reputation rather than student success. Thoroughly enjoying the story, I didn't want it to end. I laughed out loud so many times at the hilarious and detailed descriptions of Matthew's daily incidents and interactions with the odd characters in the inner sanctum of the university bureaucracy. Matthew is clever, sometimes amusing and always caring as he maneuvers the dark side of a flawed institution. Ultimately however, College Street is satirical, and as always, the fine line between satire and truth is thought-provoking. You won't regret reading this sharp and intelligent book.
