Detailed Bibliography with comments. Author : Christopher D. Roy, (Recognized as an expert on tribal art). Published by 5 Continents, 2015It is a little disappointing that with this volume in the series, the number of objects presented has fallen from the series average of 64, to just 46. Given the beauty and abundance of masterpieces of Mossi art, this fact seems nothing short of cheap and uninspired, particularly for a publishing house like 5 Continents. I ended up giving the book "4-Stars", but, truth be told, the book is about 6.5 out of 10.The "Visions Of Africa" series offers a well-presented, small format, "potted" history of a specific tribe's art, and the books have all the advantages and disadvantages of this format. The figures and masks presented are always well photographed and nicely presented, but only a few are outstanding, and the the small-format can tend to diminish the impact of the objects. Given the wonderful books which are currently available on African art, the Visions Of Africa series of books are not great value-for-money, but it is an ambitious and worthwhile project, and if you have specific interest in particular tribes and their contribution to the world of tribal art, then the books do have a real value. I admit that I am happy to collect every one..
