Episode 6 is my All-Time Favorite Radio Show By Bill Anderson Length: 2 hours 41 minutes.I have been listening to the Powder River series since I first stumbled upon the production at the Colonial Radio Theater web site. I have loved each and every season, including the three spin-offs: Guns of Powder River, Mountain of Gold, and Morgan's Town.Indeed, I am such a fan of PR that, when Sirius XM discontinued Book Radio (on which CRT series frequently aired) I let my subscription lapse. Fully 80% of my time tuning into Sirius was devoted to Book Radio and/or Radio Classics. You would think after some 120 episodes, the writer might run short of ideas or slip into a repetition, but not Jerry Robbins. He waits until you get settled into a comfy listening mode then throws a new curve at you. What I mean, and bear in mind I do not give spoilers in my reviews, is that Robbins is in that class of writers who knows that powerful writing comes when you're willing to kill your darlings or write of those deep, dark secrets you work so hard to keep hidden from the world. Then, just when you least expect it, the guy does something that totally worms its way into your subconscious. Well, for me anyway. The last episode in Season 10, Volume 1, astounded me so that I teared up just as if I was again reading, or listening to, Old Yeller or Shane. For me, at least, this episode, while based on fictional characters, was so compelling that I felt as though these characters were actually representative of people who actually did exist. I know it is an odd statement, but, spiritually, I do feel connected with the four people drawn by Robbins. That genius is what marks this writer as gifted.Of all the episodes I have thus far listened to, the concluding episode of this volume is not only my favorite, it is by far the best writing and production I have ever witnessed. That should be viewed as especially noteworthy, for I have the entire Jimmy Stewart series, Six-Shooter, and most all episodes of Dragnet, Gunsmoke, plus several dozen other Radio Classics radio shows. The only avocations I find more enjoyable than audio theater is reading or listening to audiobooks, or, traipsing out among nature on the prairies, in the mountains, or in the deserts.Normally, when experiencing fiction, one either is able to suspend disbelief or the story is a failure. There are no other options. With this latest Powder River production, however, we go beyond suspending disbelief. We approach that other-world status and travel back and forward through time.Although it is not absolutely necessary to listen to all the other seasons before Season 10, it is highly recommended. My one regret is that I cannot give this volume a rating higher than 5 stars.

I started listening and could not stop until all the episodes were listened to. The Colonial Radio Theater continues to do a great job with their stories that seem to come to life. Thank you for all the wonderful years and stories.
