STAND ALONE CONTEMPORARY BILLIONAIRE ROMANCE ***For a limited time, you can get a bonus scene from Teaching The Boss FREE & the Cross Falls Series Part One novella: Falling Secrets FREE*** Billionaire heiress Emma Devereaux has been living a safe-yet-mundane existence in Georgia for too long, but when she learns her sister, Joslyn, has been arrested, she heads to New York City to find out what really happened. Unfortunately, as an unemployed debutante, she’s not exactly qualified to be leading an investigation. But help is at hand in the form of the handsome, former military man Jace Lance who happens to be the one who got her sister arrested in the first place. Jace thinks Emma is crazy for even considering working with him since he’s the one who stopped Joslyn from killing his former client. However, he can’t deny that the sexy southerner is in over her head when her tycoon cousins try to hire him to make sure Emma doesn’t find out the truth about what really caused her sister’s murderous actions. As they begin to uncover the truth together –and get to know each other intimately – it becomes clear that the more answers they get, the more danger Emma is in. Jace is determined to protect her, but how can he keep her safe when her whole family is in on the conspiracy?

With this being #4 in the series, I'd be hard pressed to say which one I enjoyed the most. All of the books have been a lot of fun to read. That being said, I do think this one was probably my least favorite so far. I felt like this book ended rather abruptly. I didn't feel that way with the first three books. The danger also seems to be increasing with each book. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's notable and makes me wonder what will happen in book 5.Something I'd really like to see is more interplay between characters from past books, as they are all connected somehow (there currently isn't much interplay at all). It'd be nice to see how the previous relationships are progressing, but they are barely mentioned. In other words, this book could maybe be read as a stand alone if you aren't interested in the whole series. The only problem would be the following:The reader never actually finds out who Emma is in danger from. The mystery hangs over the reader's head the whole book, building anticipation, only to let them down at the end. While Dave may be the one doing the dirty deeds, we never find out who his boss is or why they wanted Emma dead in the first place (aside from wanting the USB drive and laptop, which is incredibly vague). The reader never finds out what information on those two devices was so important that it was worth killing someone over. The reader never finds out exactly why Emma is suddenly no longer in danger at the end of the book or anything about what the heck her cousins did to 'fix things'. The reader is left hanging in a way that they haven't been with any of the previous three books. Hopefully book 5 will clarify all of this, but I'm worried it could end up being too little too late.

Enjoyable Read By Amazon Customer in SF I received this book for my honest review. This is the 4th book in the series, and although each is a standalone book, some of the characters from the previous books do appear. This story features Southern debutante, Emma Devereaux, and Jace Lance, security/bodyguard specialist. We also meet Emma's cousins, Luke and Michael, who play a secondary roles, but are crucial to the story line. Others have provided a more thorough synopsis so I won't.go into great detail. The main premise of this book is Emma trying to find insight into why her sister, Joslyn, would attempt to kill Victoria Green, billionaire CEO of a hardware company. She meets Jace by accident, likes him, but later finds out he was present when her sister was arrested. She hires him anyway to help her sleuth out clues. At times, I find Jace's decisions/actions inconsistent with that of a SEAL and security expert, like when he agrees to also work with Emma's cousins, to prevent her from finding out certain information, and especially at the end. I guess because this is an ongoing story line, there are certain events that occur without depth of explanation. I enjoyed the flirty banter between Emma and Jace, and the way Emma confronted her cousins. There were some loose ends that weren't really wrapped up, and the ending seemed rather sudden. I look forward to reading the next book to see how the story progresses.

Faltys As a reader unfamiliar with the Billionaires in the City series I was worried that not reading the previous installments would detract from my enjoyment of this story. I'm happy to report though that this is a fun and flirty read with a nice bit of suspense that can definitely stand on its own.In the aftermath of Joslyn Devaroux's attempted murder of wealthy businesswoman Victoria Green, heiress Emma Devaroux and security specialist Jace Lance are brought together under a veil of deceit that could destroy their burgeoning relationship before it's barely begun. Throw in a bit of suspense courtesy of the machinations of Emma's sister Joslyn and her hired thug David and you have the impetus that binds Jace and Emma together despite her anger at his perceived betrayal. Told in alternating POVs readers are given a glimpse into both of the main character's lives which had me finding them likable and enjoying their increasingly steamy romance.Emma could've lived up to the stereotype of the snobby rich girl but she was anything but. She was determined and strong-willed and gave as good as she got when it came to Jace. With his military background Jace was a loyal man, torn between his initial duty to Victoria and later on to Emma's cousins. Ultimately, as his feelings for Emma grew deeper, he became her champion protecting her from Joslyn's manipulations. Jace and Emma might've started off adversaries but with the danger increasing their interactions became crackling with fun and flirty banter leading to steamy interludes.Overall this was an entertaining story with appealing characters that made for an engaging and suspenseful tale from start to finish. Though there were some plot holes, some silly choices made by characters, and a few unanswered questions at the end, Ms. Crowe's writing style fully immersed me in the story and pulled me along every step of the way. Readers looking for a sexy read with a bit of intrigue will want to add this to their bookshelf.
