Celebrate the rebirth of the world's most stunning high-performance automobile.
Porsche made history when it brought turbocharging to the racing world in the form of the 917. When strict regulations regarding engine displacement took away the option of bigger engines, manufacturers turned to forced induction. In its wildest trim, the original 12-cylinder turbocharged Porsche racing engine yielded as much as 1,400 horsepower! Porsche's official philosophy was that racing cars must have a connection to street cars, so it was preordained that Porsche would eventually produce a turbocharged version of its air-cooled flat-six cylinder engine.
The resulting 930 Turbo appeared in the spring of 1975 in Europe. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour took a scant 5.5 seconds, and its top speed was 155 miles per hour. The Turbo's distinctive rear wing let the world know that this was something very special. It was nothing less than the rebirth of the high-performance automobile. At a time when the big-block engines in America's so-called "muscle cars" were putting out 180 horsepower and the engines in exotic supercars weren't much more ambitious, the lightweight Porsche was a genuine rocket.
Porsche Turbo: The Inside Story of Stuttgart's Turbocharged Road and Race Cars celebrates Porsche's five decades of turbocharged supercar performance, both on the track and on the street. It covers all of the major racing cars as well as the turbocharged street cars, including the 930, 935, 924, 944, 968, 911, and Cayenne Panamera. Don't let this one fly past you!

Hoyt As an avid Porsche owner/enthusiast of three 911 turbo coupes, this book is the typical Leffingwell work - well researched, excellent photography and beautifully bound. It's a great history of Porsche's use and mastery of turbo charging from racing to the street. As the current owner of a 94 turbo 3.6, I was a bit mystified that there wasn't more info devoted to this increasingly popular model. Other than that, Porsche Turbo is another home run for both author and reader.

Someone in my neighborhood would drive by every morning in his grey Turbo with that magnificent whale tail wing. I sure did want one, wanted one bad. But, alas I never did get to own one of those beasts then or now.My interest in all Porsches of the turbo variety was at least partially sated by Randy Leffingwell's new book: "Porsche Turbo, The Inside Story of Stuttgart's Turbocharged Road and Race Cars." This is another one of Mr. Leffingwell's outstanding books about Porsches with high quality photos, renderings and diagrams - a visual pleasure. The history and evolution of the turbo in racing to the first road cars is meticulously detailed. For the mechanically minded, there are explanations of how turbos and their various components work.Being about turbos, much of the book is devoted to racing in all its forms including Porsche's F1 efforts. Road car turbos from the very first 930 through the 2016 991 cars are chronicled in detail. This is a book that belongs in every Porsche enthusiast's collection, especially with Porsche going all turbocharged next year.

By Jose Lopez Porsche Turbo:The Inside Story of Stuttgart's Turbocharged Road and Race Cars.I am a 80s 930 Slantnose guy myself,I always liked Porsche 911/930 Cars from the 80s with the Turbo Look and Turbo wing and preferably a Turbo engine in there with the look too!I am not keen on modern Porsche's but Always liked the Turbo Porsche so I came across this book and most of the stuff I want to know on the cars Is in here,Being Biased my favorite is the 930 coverage in the book and Porsche "Special Wishes"(Later Porsche Exclusive) and the racing cars.Plenty of other information in here such as Porsche Engined Small-plane,Porsche Powered Boat,I Love the shiny Cover to this big hardcover book and at the same time if you're not careful your fingerprints can easily smudge the black cover which is elegant, the archives and color pictures and the cutaways and art inside,Drawings, sketches are beautiful,I am not a fan of the SUV or the Hybrids(Racer as well as Street)Which is included,Even if you are a passing Porsche guy or a Porschephile I highly recommend you get a copy.
