The Ford Mustang is America's most iconic muscle car. With over 50 years of production and some 10 million cars built, the brand is recognized and admired worldwide. This lavishly illustrated book, full of gorgeous studio photography, walks the reader through more than 50 years of Mustang history, focusing on the most interesting and popular models.
From the first six-cylindered Mustang of 1964-1/2 through the heavy metal Boss and Mach 1 versions to today's all-new 2015 Mustang, Art of the Mustang is a detailed visual overview of Mustang's greatest hits, including anniversary and pace cars, high-performance models, SVO specials, and Shelby's high-profile offerings.
Photographer Tom Loeser's stunning "light-painted" images are given context by informative text hitting the high points of each featured car, while period ads and brochures help round out the story. It's the closest, clearest look you can get of these ponies without seeing them in person.

"This book is exceptionally well done. It is well written (as we have come to expect from Donald Farr) and the photographs are top shelf. Photographer Tom Loeser shot 29 cars for the book in a studio, demonstrating that he knows what he is doing behind the camera. The photos are spectacular." - Shelby American

He is the living muse. There is perfect harmony in the lighting, the vanishing points, the color saturation, the higlights and shadows along body lines, and the seat of your pants feel to the interior shots. Motorbooks clearly recognized the artistry of this gifted photographer and pulled out the stops in reproducing his shots for this book. It is the last word in Mustang photo art, at least until Mr. Loeser does another one. Anyone who has ever stared lovingly at a beautiful car till your eyes hurt, walking around it and studying it from every angle and aching with sheer jealousy, can tell that Mr. Loeser wants every one of these cars for his own. And now I gotta have one! The scope of this retrospective is respectful of the evolution of the Mustang. Although many of us would like to forget it, even the quirky '76 finds it's way in here in immaculate Cobra II trim. Engine compartments gleam and little engineering details Like the custom shock towers in a '68 trans-am, a storied veteran of the muscle car hay-days. After soaking up the breathtaking photos in this top-notch motorbook you'll want to read the text by Donald Farr. That's the progression for me. Mr. Farr hasn't just done his homework, he's the guy we're assigned to read as our homework. If owning a Mustang is in your future, the insights, the research, the whole wealth of knowledge about Mustangs is at his fingertips, and every example in this book is supported with technology and development detail from a lifetime of study. I have been collecting and oggling Motorbooks since the 70's and Art of the Mustang gets my highest recommendation. It's the best I've seen and has fully inspired my car lust. Maybe my kid wont mind passing on a year of college. I guess I'll have to wait. But I can't wait to see the next Motorbook from these guys.

Soper I received my copy of "Art of the Mustang" last week and looked forward to the weekend so I could begin reading it and perusing the pictures of America's iconic pony car. Not only did I "begin", but I read the entire book during two college football games. First, let me say that phtographer Tom Loeser's "light-painted images" (as the book states) jump off the pages. The pictures are uncluttered and accentuate the shapes and lines that are the Mustang. His pictures show that not every car in this book is a Concours ready car; just the way I like it! There are cars in there that are identical to my Mustang, with real use and "road rash" showing. Second, I like the approach that Tom Loeser took in his writing. You get some really cool trivia and history about certain models and then he finishes with the story of each particular car and its owner(s). And isn't that why we're drawn to cars? Sure....they're sexy and cool and provide a sense of freedom, but it's the back-stories behind the cars that we love!

By Bruce Kawaguchi The Art of the Mustang sets the standard by which all other automotive art books must be judged. Tom Loeser's iconic photographic style depicts everything from concours to barn-find in a depth of desirability that captures your attention even for Mustang models that previously were below your radar. Each chapter presents an example of the evolution of Ford's pony car from it's inception to the 2015. Donald Farr's description of each example highlights not only the details of the car, but a visceral feel for the era. Far from being a boring restorers checklist, this book is a collection of Mustangs that would grace anything from museum to race track. Some are beautiful concours medal winners and some are unique Mustangs previously unphotographed and unearthed in Loeser's relentless searches for Mustangs which draw out our emotional attachment to the Mustang.
