Review "Harebrained is all about connections between community, family, and life's slings and arrows. It's hilarious, easy reading and it's accessible to all as an example of the autobiographical essay form at its best. Morgan's strength lies in the ability to produce unexpected twists to each essay's conclusion and, ultimately, to take the opening story of the series and neatly sandwich it between layers of fun interaction, concluding with the wellspring of inspiration that opened the collection and ultimately produced a vivid, successful writer."-D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review"By chapter two, I was hooked. The author offers the reader a window into her personal life with vivid descriptions, and the retelling of not only the stories themselves, but of the inner monologues that go along with them. She has shared her whole self, and after reading this fantastic book, I feel as though I know her as a friend. Her self-deprecating humor and raw honesty sets her apart from so many things I have read. If I could recommend just one book for you to read this summer, Harebrained is definitely it!"-Ashford Evans, Writer for Mrs. Muffin Top"A delightfully humorous collection, Morgan's observations are sharp, incisive and often very funny. What makes the book most effective is her candidness and honesty. The writing is breezy and light at times, but Morgan's collection covers the gamut of emotions, making the book more moving and effective, and gives the humor extra weight. All in all, Morgan's honesty and humor are comforting, and you'll feel like friends by the end of the book." 4.5/5 Stars-Self-Publishing ReviewMorgan is a lovable narrator with the gift of story telling, and it is evident through the depiction of her hilarious life adventures. Morgan is never failing to entertain the reader with her relatable struggles and side splitting commentary. She is sure to have readers fall in love with her hilariously harebrained personality! Harebrained is a lighthearted read that is a definite page turner. It is clear why Morgan decided to put her hilariously unique life on paper, to share her many misadventures with fun loving readers who enjoy a good laugh.-Red City Review
About the Author Meg is a woman with too little time on her hands to write as though she’s got nothing but time. Even still, she’s written a humorous blog since 2010, and she has been published in print and syndicated online. An Oklahoma native, Meg received her undergraduate degree in English and Creative Writing from Drury University, and her MPA and PhD from the University of Oklahoma. Meg lives in Tulsa with her husband and two daughters. She works as an assistant professor of political science and writes feverishly in the minuscule time after her children go to bed and before her nightcap.

There is simply not a better book in the history of the written word.Okay, now that I have your attention, you should know that this book is a collection of funny, heartfelt, slice-of-life essays. While Harebrained will probably resonate best with other parents of young kids, I believe any reader who appreciates wit will find it engaging and hilarious. Morgan writes about her family, her education, her childhood, and her career with a perfectly balanced writing style. She hits a sweet spot of being funny, and also really poignant, and also intelligent and sophisticated, yet still friendly and accessible. A word of warning: you'll be reading along, enjoying a story, and then, at the end, she will suckerpunch you. Right in the gut. She's a master at writing closing sentences for each piece that 1) brilliantly tie everything together and 2) somehow elicit a physical reaction. For me, this meant either a real, actual, audible laugh or a lump in my throat, depending on the story. Here's hoping that Meg Myers Morgan writes more books in the future.

Smart, candid, funny By Elise Maybe you should know I knew Meg Myers Morgan nearly eleven years ago—we were English majors and worked together in our university's writing center. When we weren't reading and editing student papers, we were talking, though I now remember our conversations focused around my worrying about boys and classes and college and what to do after, and Meg giving me fabulous advice. She's incredibly smart, candid, and funny, and, I am not surprised at all to discover, so is her first book of essays. The collection is adventurous in form—Meg confidently weaves together prose, poetry, and a three-act play—and is divided into thirty-seven short-short chapters ("The Loch Ness Monster," "Fear Itself"), which feel like topics of conversation you might stumble onto with a close friend, particularly if said friend happens to be incredibly eloquent and insightful. In each chapter, Meg investigates seemingly disparate, fleeting everyday moments and reveals them as small but shimmering possibilities for transformation—in marriage, motherhood, work, and life.

I may be biased, because some of my fondest college memories are from two of her classes, but I think that just makes my review all the more relevant. Read this book if you need hope that women can be, and do, and have, while parenting. Read this book if you need to laugh with someone about being, and doing, and having, while parenting. Read this book if you need to know that someone exists who believes in you as a woman accomplishing. Accomplishing what? Whatever you want. When I listened to Meg's offer of support and encouragement to her female students (as discussed in her essay, Tabling the Discussion), I knew she cared. And it meant so much to me, as a woman, carving out my own path to success during motherhood. So thank you, Meg. And to everyone else... just buy the book already!
