At the age of twenty-one, Prince Philip wrote to a relative: 'I know you will never think much of me. I am rude and unmannerly.' Prince Philip probably never managed to change the opinion of his relative... This affectionate compendium brings together both the best and a host of less well-known stories about the prince, giving an insight into the royal world where he 'traipses around' as a 'fella who belongs to Mrs Queen', rather than being 'professionally qualified in something'. From Prince Philip's blunt speech making, to his fearless mocking of officials and captains of industry, to his fond teasing of Her Majesty herself, here is a truly regal celebration of the unusual daily life in royal circles.

Barrett I enjoyed this collection of Philip's verbal indiscretions, and thought it was well worth the three dollars it cost me. It is not history or biography or in any sense a serious book; just light and amusing entertainment. The editing of the Kindle edition is exceedingly poor, and at times distracting. In some places words, punctuation, and whole ends of sentences have fallen out; in other places they are repeated. In a couple of places they are just odd, and it's hard to tell what happened. At one point, the book even refers to its subject as "Prince Philip, Duke of York." (He's the Duke of Edinburgh; the Duke of York is his son.) The editing problems seem more pronounced toward the end of the book. I'm not sure whether the editor was getting tired or I was just getting tired of the editing. If the editing had been better, I'd have given the book four stars for being exactly kind of the light reading I had expected it to be. If it had been a serious book, the editing would have taken the rating down to one star.

Carmichael Absolutely full of egregious editorial errors (did no one proof this book!?!)! Very, very irritatingly distracting. That said, an interesting brief look at an interesting man, who has a difficult role to play in life -- I think he has been an admirable support to a gracious and wonderful monarch. He can be (sometimes quite understandably) curmudgeonly but his remarks are often what many of us would wish to have said.Prince Philip must give Her Majesty headaches at times, but he must also have been a marvelous and loving lifetime partner in one of history's most difficult fishbowls. Few could have handled such a task as well.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Amusing afternoon read. . . By CalNative Very amusing, as far as HRH's quips and quotes are concerned. Prince Philip has never pretended to be anything other than he is - outspoken, sometimes rude, but rarely purposefully hurtful. When I read the criticisms written about him, I wonder if anyone has tried to imagine being in his position and remaining serenely and sweetly passive. Doubt it.What is NOT amusing is the horrible lack of editing done for the Kindle edition of the book. That was the very worst "writing" I've seen outside of a half-educated teen-ager's post in Facebook.
