Rated as a "Top 10 Favorite Golf Book" by Golf Advisor
In June 2010, Paul Laubach made the unfortunate decision to play all of GOLF Magazine's top 100 golf courses available to the public. Spread over 45 months, he managed to complete his goal despite numerous weather, course maintenance and other logistical issues...not to mention his own “senior moment.” The journey covered 87,814 air miles and another 17,051 by automobile. During the trek he suffered two frozen shoulders, a bad lower back, golfer's elbow (left), tennis elbow (right), three major sunburns, hundreds of mosquito bites, poison oak, plus numerous cuts and bruises chasing errant shots into the woods, desert and other prickly flora. None of this was as painful as the cost associated with losing 117 Pro V1s. A confirmed golf addict and cheapskate, he is now chronicling his adventures for his heirs (who will probably get nothing else, as he wasted the estate on this boondoggle).

Review
“What a fun and relaxing way to both revisit and explore the great golf courses of America! Confessions of a Golfaholic is an easy and enjoyable read that makes you feel like you are actually with Paul as he experiences both the fun and frustrations of the ultimate golf road trip!"Mike SmallHead Coach, Men’s Golf, University of Illinois2015 GCAA Coach of the Year
"Paul Laubach needs help. But until he gets it, good for him for seeing his obsession to its logical end. I'd play Pebble Beach with him anytime."Cameron MorfitSenior Writer, GOLF Magazine and Sports Illustrated
Laubach's book was a breezy read about the do's and don'ts while chasing down playing America's top 100 public courses. It sold me on my opinion that I shouldn't really bother to try it. The only detail missing was his personal ranking of the top 100 to compare against mine.Jason Scott DeeganSenior Writer, Golf Advisor
“Congratulations on being the only person to play the top 100 golf courses and not be invited back to play any of them.”Fred Lynn1975 MLB MVP and Fellow Dewsweeper
About the Author Paul Laubach is a 50-something obsessive, opinionated and “cheap” golf addict. He can usually be found strolling the fairways at La Costa Resort and Spa where he plays numerous rounds each year. He cannot reveal how many rounds as he wishes to hide this figure from his employer and wife (just one symptom of the addiction). His index generally falls between 5 and 7, suggesting occasional rounds in the 70’s. Mr. Laubach recently completed a 3.5 year chaotic journey to play all of GOLF Magazine's 2010 Top 100 Golf Courses You Can Play. His foibles are chronicled in his book, Confessions of a Golfaholic: A Guide to Playing America’s Top 100 Public Golf Courses. He resides in Encinitas, California, with his wife, Pat.

Golf and Family Vacations By Kathleen On the day my "road warrior" husband ended up in Savannah when trying to fly to Albuquerque, I hunted around on Amazon for a humorous book on business travel for his birthday. What I found instead was much better: a guy fantasy book on golfing the top 100 public golf courses. My husband has read me so many passages from the book that I have been reading it! It actually has helped me to understand the allure of golf and why so many high achievers love golf. The author set a goal and was determined to achieve that goal no matter what. He's quite the storyteller. Here is an example of a trip. He combined a visit to a daughter in Boston with golfing at 3 courses. Everything was set except the tee time at one course which could only be scheduled seven days in advance and which was at a golf course in western Massachusetts that was "easily accessible from nowhere." He assessed the situation this way: "No problem, there are only 8,000 residents in Williamstown, nobody goes off first thing and the local college students would be in class, right?" Of course, he did not get the time time and had to reschedule tee times at other courses. There is a lot of humor in the book, much of it focused on the hassles of travel and weather that included frost delays and thunderstorms, but there is also a lot of detailed information on each course, including green fees and descriptions of specific holes. That information is what most interested my husband. What most interested me was the list of recommended family vacations which can be combined with golf. My husband often wants to be home rather than travel when he is off work. One of our children is, according to her, "desperate" for a trip to Harry Potter World in Orlando now that Diagon Alley is open. Maybe she should be promoting Bay Hill, where Dad can use his new set of golf clubs!

About a week ago I gave him a copy of “Confessions of a Golfaholic”. He really enjoyed the book, I would hear him laughing as he read it. My son has been picking out courses he would like to play. Now when we travel, we not only toss in my son's skateboard stuff, we will also toss in my son’s clubs and hit some of the courses. I reordered a couple of copies of the book because I decided the books would make a great gift both for his current golf coach and his soon to be high school golf coach.
