Much larger than expected, a big hardcover coffee table book with heavy color photo paper, nicely done. Half the book is Tirelli's theater work, half are the film costumes.. There are some great photos of the spectacular film costumes created by Tirelli.. but overall I'm a bit meh. No behind the scenes photos, no workroom photos, the theater pics are taken of the stage from the audience with overhead theatrical lighting, and the movie costumes look like they are screen caps from the film with the resolution a bit blurry on some. What there is, is gorgeous, but it's not enough and I feel like there is more detail and in-depth looks at the clothes on their terrific website. I bought the book to see MORE, and it wasn't really more. There are a lot of pics from movies I've never heard that look spectacular, but there are only one or two random photos for each movie. In a book like this, I'd love it if it was formatted into chapters for their years-long relationships with various designers and what they have created together, or a chapter for each film really showcasing the clothes. The book is nicely done, but it's the briefest of overviews of Tirelli's body of work.

Lipio Always admire the Italians on their costume making and accuracy to the period on the details of their costumes, a sort of obsession on the part of the great Italian director Visconti. This book enables one to understand why the Italians have the understanding of what is a great and well made costume as oppose to one that is just made to look like a period or contemporary costume. It highlights the difference, in the details and it is in most cases of quality items what makes the difference, the attention given to the details of the product produced.
