By Sylvia Haenga I love this author and the Protector series she writes and knew the minute i brought this new series, it was going to be just as good. Wow i was totally right. It was just too awesome to be bundled in a review with books I wasn't impressed with. I was already a fan of Teresa Gabelman thanks to the Protector Series. The minute I saw this was book one in a series the happy dance commenced. So what did I like about it--The Foster brothers are just goofy and good natured. Garrett is the pack alpha, the protector of all and soon to be spoken for (Of course he doesn't know that). Janna Lawson is the perfect female character. She is a defender of the weak, picking up and caring for two young pups, while on the run. She is strong enough that she has held off the change all of her life (the problem of having a human mother and hiding from the world). A lot of the laughs came from Janna's lack of knowledge about the pack. She talks back to Garrett. She talked to other wolves, even after being informed that she was Garrett's mate. She would go against the pack if she saw it was the best way to protect another. Marcus and Hunter Foster add more laughs. I can't wait to read and laugh at their stories. Please tell me we will get their stories.

By Rough Draft Book Blog Forbidden Hunger by Teresa GabelmanGarrett & JannaI was given a copy by Teresa for an honest evaluation. Let me see, where to begin... I read this in one afternoon. It's not a short read nor is it uber lengthy either, however it's that good that I could not put it down for one second until I read the last words. This story comes complete with an enormous alpha male, a hard-hitting and hilarious female lead, and loads and loads of action and suspense.Garrett Foster is the pack leader of the Lee County wolves and holy smokes is he divine. When Garrett is presented with a young woman and two small children trying to enter his town of course he's going to question them and find out exactly what their reason for being there is. That first meeting gave me chills up and down my spine, I just knew I was going to adore him. He rules with a firm hand and a soft heart and it doesn't hurt that he is drop dead gorgeous.Janna Lawson is all kinds of a ooey gooey goodness. She's a tiny little thing but can hold her own. She's on a mission that would make most of us cringe. Not Janna, she trembles on the inside but stays strong for herself, her mother, and the two cutie pie kids she picks up along the way. I didn't always agree with some of her decisions, but in my heart I knew why she made them. Definitely an excellent heroine!Outstanding supporting character cast. Garrett's brothers Marcus and Hunter cracked me right the heck up. I just love stories that pepper in such good humor to make you chuckle in the face of danger and what story wouldn't be complete without a villain. Jasper and Evan Simone. They scared the crap out of me at times. it's just made the story that much richer. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. It was sexy, scary, suspenseful, and adventurous. I haven't read a paranormal in quite some time and this little novella seemed to pull me right back into the genre. The writing style was effortless to read and the pacing was perfect. I have loved Teresa Gabelman's books since first reading her VC warriors books. Great job Miss Gabelman, keep up the good work.ARC given by author for an honest review5 Stars

The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare

About the Author Arguably the greatest English-language playwright, William Shakespeare was a seventeenth-century writer and dramatist, and is known as the Bard of Avon. Under the patronage of Queen Elizabeth I, he penned more than 30 plays, 154 sonnets, and numerous narrative poems and short verses. Equally accomplished in histories, tragedies, comedy, and romance, Shakespeare s most famous works include Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, The Taming of the Shrew, and As You Like It.

Like many of his contemporaries, including Christopher Marlowe, Shakespeare began his career on the stage, eventually rising to become part-owner of Lord Chamberlain s Men, a popular dramatic company of his day, and of the storied Globe Theatre in London.

Extremely popular in his lifetime, Shakespeare s works continue to resonate more than three hundred years after his death. His plays are performed more often than any other playwright s, have been translated into every major language in the world, and are studied widely by scholars and students.

Thornton As an older adult that is somewhat isolated I started the study of Shakespeare on my own with just a big book that had annotaions that were often more cofusing than enlightening. It was rewarding but it was like plowing through a field full of big rocks. I found reading two or three scenes of an act with No Fear Shakespeare and then reading the corresponding section of Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare great fun. No Fear explains the nuances of language and setting while Asimov gives rich insight to the characters and events that makes it so easy to remember the varied characters and plot twists.I found this method makes Shakespeare infinitely more easy to not only get through but savor and enjoy. My plan is to get as much of No Fear Shakespeare as I can including all the plays that I have gone through so laboriously in the past and apply the No Fear/Asimov technique. I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Though it is a popular television and movie theme, we know it in large part due to Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare's famed play. It includes moving scenes such as Caesar's infamous "Et tu Brute", and Marc Antony's moving "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears." This book, put together by Folger Shakespeare Library, helps to bring this story to life. This book, about 239 pages total, features "explanatory notes conveniently placed on pages facing the text of the play." While these notes may not answer every question you might come up with, I believe they are very helpful to the average reader (such as myself). These pages also provide plenty of room for anyone who prefers to annotate, or write down thoughts, in their books. Also featured on these pages is a scene summary for every scene. The scene summaries really helped me truly understand the Shakespearian language. I am very grateful I ordered this copy of Julius Caesar, since it has the tools necessary for the average reader to fully grasp what is happening. I picked it up right here on Amazon.com. I can hardly find negative aspects to this edition. The best I can come up with is that the words and phrases noted are not already underlined or marked somehow by the publisher. (I know, not a big deal.) The story is great, a must-read for all history buffs or even the casual reader. All-in-all, if you are looking to read Julius Caesar, or just some Shakespeare to impress your friends or teachers with, check out the Folger Shakespeare Library's edition of Julius Caesar. I highly recommend it. So, what are you waiting on? Get to it!

The books are divided into three sections: the first section is a kind of history of Shakespeare and his plays, the second section is the actual play, and the third section is more of the details of the play,i.e. where the story came from, how it is performed, how to directed the play. All in all it was a great for teaching the works of Shakespeare.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Pope lite, and not at all bad By Christopher (o.d.c.) "Rules, and Truth, and Order, Dunces strike;Of Arts, and Virtues, enemies alike.... Ultimately, then, Harte seemed aware that the dunces pose a colossal threat, a threat which warrants Pope's numerous echoes of Paradise Lost. Harte's Essay, in fact, contains several echoes of the same poem. Though, like most of Pope's, these Miltonic echoes are given a comic turn which indicates a wide gap between the real satanic host and its London auxiliary, there is little doubt that Harte grasped the underlying seriousness of his mentor's analogies and his own."Like Blackmore's Essay upon Wit, this comes to Kindle via the Augustan Reprint Society. It is an essay in verse, by a hanger-on of Pope's, with a translation of the French poet Boileau's defense of the use of proper names in satire, which the editor tenuously suggests may be Pope's own veiled self-defense (although, oddly enough, he does not use the term "sock puppet").The poem, which I call "Pope lite," is actually very good, especially if you have a taste for the heoic couplet:The charms of Parody, like those of Wit,If well contrasted, never fail to hit;One half in light, and one in darkness drest,(For contraries oppos'd still shine the best.)When a cold Page half breaks the Writer's heart,By this it warms, and brightens into Art."Foe to the Learn'd, the Virtuous, and the Sage,A Pimp in Youth, an Atheist in old Age:Now plung'd in Bawdry and substantial Lyes,Now dab'ling in ungodly Theories; But so, as Swallows skim the pleasing flood,Grows giddy, but ne'er drinks to do him good:Alike resolv'd to flatter, or to cheat,Nay worship Onions, if they cry, come eat:Yet these love Verse, as Croaking comforts Frogs,And Mire and Ordure are the Heav'n of Hogs. Some write for Glory, but the Phantom fades; Some write as Party, or as Spleen invades;A third, because his Father was well read,And Murd'rer-like, calls Blushes from the dead.Yet all for Morals and for Arts contend----They want'em both, who never prais'd a Friend.More ill, than dull; For pure stupidityWas ne'er a crime in honest Banks, or me."I simply must regale the reader with a very apt excerpt from the "Boileau":"So true it is that the right of blaming bad Authors, is an ancient Right, pass'd into a Custom, among all the Satirists, and allow'd in all ages....But they who are so angry at the Critics, how comes it that they are so merciful to bad Authors? I see what it is that troubles them; they have no mind to be undeceiv'd. It vexes them to have seriously admir'd those Works, which my Satires have expos'd to universal Contempt; and to see themselves condemn'd, to forget in their old Age, those Verses which they got by heart in their Youth, as Master-pieces of Wit. Truly I am sorry for 'em, but where's the help? Can they expect, that to comply with their particular Taste, we should renounce common Sense? applaud indifferently all the Impertinencies which a Coxcomb shall think fit to throw upon paper? and instead of condemning bad Poets (as they did in certain Countries) to lick out their Writings with their own Tongue, shall Books become for the future inviolable Sanctuaries, where all Blockheads shall be made free Denizens, not to be touch'd without Profanation? I could say much more on this subject; but as I have already treated it in my ninth Satire, I shall thither refer the Reader."

“She had a friend, who never led her, who she felt led to become close to. This friend saw all of her, before she saw all of herself, and had faith in who she would become someday.” “Who Broke The Girl?” is a thoughtful reflection on the healing of a wounded life. Narrated by her soul, this memoir flows through The Girl’s life from the time she’s born, through the times she learns how to feel broken, and then the times her dreams break apart on her. The strength of her hope keeps her moving forward on her own road, despite the broken pieces, both inside and out, that come along to trip her up. Stripping away superficial names, the narrative focuses on the deepest of emotions that are unconsciously driving her life. From her choice to leave a good life, in a city where she feels the happiness of her first freedom, for a boy that takes control of her life. To the times she chooses to break apart her comfort and run through different lives across the world; hooked on the happiness of starting over where no one knows her, in the hopes of seeing herself more clearly. Only to finally choose to come back to the first city she abandoned with the hope that its energy will bring her real happiness. Feel how all of these breaks chip away at her, until she suffers the deepest of breaks, which leads her to her true self. Universal in the emotions she experiences, the lyrics of this girl's life offer a beacon of light to those setting out on their own road to personal happiness.

Review "...Costantino's emotional honesty is refreshing, and her slow, awkward journey toward greater happiness reflects that life's problems are rarely solved in an instant. An odd but often satisfying story, told in an unusual voice." -"Kirkus Reviews"

Her narrative voice is unique and the story of her life spins organically and seamlessly as if a spider weaving a silk. This is a personal story, hers, but the writing is intentionally reflective allowing the reader to insert herself into the story, taking Constantino's place. After all, for most of us, our personal journey's are similar even if time and place are not the same. Thoughtfully conceived over a life time and written with a seasoned hand, you will enjoy this book.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Unbroken By ReadingOtherPeople A memoir by definition, "Who Broke The Girl?" is more of a rhetorical question more than anything. Written by New Yorker Christina Costantino, the novel is a ethereal recounting of one woman's life in one particular set of circumstances. It's lyrical and simple. It is the simplicity of her words that make the book resonant. The shared stories and experiences of the author as she navigates through life across as a song. The melody gets in your head like an earworm, except the lyrics aren't superficial. Instead, they are emotions conveyed through the medium of humanity.Resilience is a skill we all want, and, to a certain extent, require to live a long and happy life. "Who Broke The Girl?" gives a personal edge to some life lessons that can apply to anyone's life, without placing the blame on everyone else but one's self.Like this review? Cristina takes on tough and often heartbreaking themes as she shares the deepest corners of her soul. While the story is deeply and singularly hers, her thoughts and feelings are hugely accessible. I often found myself relating the descriptions of her characters to people I've experienced in my own life. So much so that I almost felt like I was participating in her story. She is a unique storyteller who has found a power in her voice that can be felt by many. The result is beautiful and freeing and gut wrenching all at the same time.

The Soaring Kiwi and the Sauerkraut is the offbeat travel tale of a hang gliding New Zealander who makes the mistake of marrying a grumpy German and moving to Munich, the city of big beer and Lederhosen you couldn't whip a high ranking motorsport official into wearing. A big life style change for the kiwi known to most of the world as: a) a small brown furry fruit b) a brand of shoe polish c) a motorcycle helmet but is in fact a small brown, nocturnal bird found only in New Zealand. And can’t fly. Perfect prerequisites for our Soaring Kiwi, on his quest to become the world’s worst hang gliding champion. From the: • pinnacle of the dedicated dot.com entrepreneur with a cunning business plan, to the tedium trough of the underemployed with an efficient German employer that isn’t • climax in every teenage petrol head’s wet dream of piloting a big black car really, really fast, legally, to the pit of despair while being overtaken by a Mini • thrill of the first proper sentence in German, to realising said sentence could have been uttered by any good international man of mystery • relief of freedom from pain, to the tortures of Germany’s modern medieval medical establishment the Soaring Kiwi and the Sauerkraut is a germane journey through the highs and lows of adjusting to life in a new country with bad coffee.

The Soaring Kiwi and the Sauerkraut, by Phil Southward

About the Author The Soaring Kiwi, aka Phil Southward, is a wannabe competition hang gliding pilot and author. Phil was born in the small town of Lower Hutt, a suburb of the big, for New Zealand standards, capital city Wellington. After completing an unremarkable few years at school, he went on to squeeze a further forgettable number of years in the IT industry while travelling, skiing, windsurfing, surfing, hang gliding and mountain biking whenever he could. Making the mistake of marrying the Sauerkraut, a grumpy German he met in Wellington, Phil moved to Munich where he lives today. Phil has two great little girls, a hang glider, paraglider, windsurfer, surfboard, mountain bike, motorcycle, three pairs of skis and a number of toy Porsches. This is his first book.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. One of the funniest books I have read in a long time! By Gitterich As a transplanted German, I could relate to all the idiosyncrasies the "Kiwi"recited about the German bureaucracy. I had so many LOL moments, my husband was worried about me! I can recommend this book to anyone who has lived and worked in Germany for a while. The "Kiwi" definitely could make a living as a comedian. Great writing!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A fun read By Steve Harrison Great read of a New Zealander making a new life in a foreign country, highlighting the differences in the Kiwi relaxed attitude verses the more strict and structured German living environment, especially the hilarious descriptions of the Deutschland bureaucracy in action (or mainly inaction). Almost a 'must read' for anyone thinking of making a new start there (or any new country really) especially where a complete change in language, culture and hemisphere is on the cards.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A must read By Sandra Berzina This hilarious book is about a Kiwi's trials and tribulations of being married to a grumpy German while living and working in Germany. The author somehow manages to keep his chin up no matter how bad it gets, from enduring rotten jobs to navigating crazy German bureaucracy to dealing with injuries and sickness. A heavy dose of sarcasm and plenty of wit - loved it!
