James L. Poulton is a psychologist in private practice in Salt Lake City, an assistant professor in psychology at the University of Utah, and a member of the national faculty of the International Psychotherapy Institute in Washington, D.C. He is a coauthor of Le Conte Stewart Masterworks.

Micro Short Filmmaking: A guided learning journey, by Robert David Duncan

About the Author Robert David Duncan is an award-winning filmmaker, actor and instructor based in Vancouver, Canada. He is also the founder and festival director of the Miniature Film Festival, which celebrates the work of micro short filmmakers worldwide. His first micro short film "Every Boat is a Dream" came about almost by accident, when he chanced upon an abandoned and half sunken sailboat during a rare Vancouver snowstorm. He shot some video footage with a smartphone, and later wrote a fictional narrative about the boat and its final owner. The film went on to be exhibited at festivals in several countries and was nominated for a Best Drama award. Since then, Robert has continued to make micro short film, many of them just one minute long, that have been in festivals around the world. His film "Beauty's Bubble" was awarded a win in the One Minute Story category at the Montevideo Festival of New Cinema, and his film "The Esteem Coach" won a Director's Award at the North Carolina Film Awards. Having come to filmmaking and acting later in life, Robert believes that we all have fun and meaningful stories to tell, and that today's technology makes it easy for any of us to make a micro short film that can be entered successfully in film festivals, or simply shared with friends and loved ones. In his book "Micro Short Filmmaking" Robert shares his approach to making films and takes us on a guided learning journey that both builds confidence and gently pushes us into making our own little films. Robert trained as an actor at the Stella Adler Studio in New York, and also holds a BA, an MBA and a Doctorate in Business Leadership. He is also an author and co-author of books on teamwork, collaboration and creativity. Robert also teaches both business and creative subjects and loves speaking to groups about creativity, collaboration and leadership.

Suid Filmmaker and actor Robert David Duncan packs a lot of practical information into his MICRO SHORT FILMMAKING. It’s a quick read, but so rich you’ll likely revisit it, and keep its checklists handy.The author delivers on the book’s subtitle is A GUIDED LEARNING JOURNEY. Duncan is an excellent teacher. He knows how to combine examples and analysis to persuade readers that they can be successful filmmakers.Spoiler alert regarding the book’s big idea: The best way to become a moviemaker is to start by making very short movies. There’s a world of difference between someone who has made a complete movie—even one that’s just 60 seconds—and someone else who has ambitious dreams but never shoots a frame.For many reasons, which the author explains, the short form enables the untrained novice to overcome “moviemaker’s block.” And once in the game—after developing that first idea, shooting footage, and editing—there’s a natural progression to getting better and better with each project.The book isn’t a technical manual. It doesn’t discuss lenses or editing software. Rather, it’s primarily about developing the state of mind—the attitude—needed to use all the currently available innovative and fun gear to make memorable movies. Here are just a few of your inaccuaracies:You write: "No more carefree laughter..Agnetha sings mournfully on Knowing Me Knowing You"...well, it was Frida who sang lead on this one- a fact that was even mentioned in the liner notes on the "Arrival"-album.You write:"At the end of their 1979 tour ABBA knew they would never tour again...well, Mr Oldham, tell me then, who toured Japan in spring the following year- impersonaters???You write: Opus 10 died of boredom before delivery- but the one track they recorded for that album- I Am The City shows that ABBA had lost none of their vitality...well Opus 10 was never recorded because such a project didn't exist and I Am The City was recorded way back in 1982- and not in 1986.Dear Mr Oldham, you don't even know the bare facts that one can look up in any "Gold" compilation inner sleeve. A man who doesn't even know who sang lead on the worldwide hit Knowing Me Knowing You is surely not the right person to write an in-depth biography.Save time and effort next time !

The Name of the Game: Take a Chance on It By A Customer To this day, the original Swedish Fab Four -ABBA- remain one of Europe's most popular music groups. Not bad for a group that hasn't recorded together in over 15 years. Their albums continue to sell well, especially in the UK, where their ABBA Gold/More ABBA Gold albums have remained in the top 40 album charts for close to 5 years! And with the success of the smash London musical Mamma Mia!, co-produced by Bjorn Ulvaeus and chock full of ABBA's greatest hits, which has played to sold-out performances since its debut in April 1999, ABBA's popularity is nowhere near ending. The book, ABBA: The Name of the Game, provides the ABBA fan with a great detail of the behind- the-scene lives of Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn and Anni- Frid, some of which could be debatable as painstakingly honest or tabloid trash. Obviously written as an unauthorized biography, the book places a great deal of emphasis on the "feud" that seemed to exist between Agnetha and Frida, a far cry from the happy smiles and wholesomeness you'd see in their videos. (Agnetha Faltskog went so far as to write a book of her own in 1997, "As I Am", to deny those allegations.) While praising most of ABBA's songs, the authors' criticisms of the few songs "they" didn't like was the equivalence of catty office gossip. At times, the book can be factually informative, but a good deal of it looks like it was written with a poisoned pen.

First of all, I don't think that interfering of the authors of the book into private lives of Agnetha, Frida, Benny and Bjorn was very nice of them. And then I don't think that these people really can know what they are talking about. I mean, it can be interesting to read about the behind-the scene lives of ABBA members but how can these people write what Agnetha was thinking about sitting alone in her hotel room? No one but Agnetha can know it , and I don't think it was she who told Andrew Oldham about her feelings. I suppose that the authors really did a big research before writing this book but there things they just couldn't know about. They give their idea of private lives of Frida, Agnetha, Bjorn and Benny, told some gossips and rumours but most of those things can't be proved. You may think that I think so `cause I'm ABBA fan and I just don't like reading some rather unpleasant things about the members of the group. It isn't so. Being ABBA fan I'm interested in knowing as much as possible about their lives, even if sometimes I don't like what I hear. But it should be facts, not rumours! Though I have to admit that this book can give you a lot of fun if you don't take it seriously! I gave it 2 stars only because of the pics. Some of them are really cute!

I'm loving Xander and Penny, they are definitely made for each other. Their story just keeps getting better and has drawn me in because they both been hurt and opening up again is hard and finding the right one for you is so sweet. These two are on fire which makes for Super Hot and Sexy Sex scenes. Xander was too funny getting ready for his date and talk with Penny. But I do not like Victoria I think she is jealous of Penny. The cliffhanger is like wow, oh no, and why. I can't wait to see what happens next.

This is book two in the Falling For You series and you need to read book one first as it is a serial.I am loving Xander and Penny! Both are having a hard time with their unexpected feelings of each other. The contract time is ticking away and both have so much anxiety that their time together will never be enough. The way that Ava is writing this is what grabbed me. It's definitely a slow and sizzling burn type of book and it is delicious!See what everybody is talking about and get on the Ava Claire bandwagon! 18 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Loved Rugged Hearts By Lorie W. This is a contemporary western set in and around the town of End of the Line , Montana. Wyatt Kinnison runs the Second Chance Ranch with the help of his brother Dalton and Rein who he has grown up with and considers a brother. Wyatt is a bit of a loner after the heartaches he has been through. Left by his mother just a few months after she marries his stepdad and cheated on by a girlfriend he has no desire to find another woman to have his heartbroken again. Amiee is the new second grade school teacher in town and gets lost on her way into town one dark and snowy night. She stops at the first house she sees and knocks on the door. The door belongs to Wyatt Kinnison and both of their lives are now about to change.I really like the way that the characters interact with each other and how Amiee pushes Wyatts buttons. This is a really sweet romance with some hot and spicy. Can not wait to get to read the next installment in this series.

To put it simply I love this book. These characters speak to your heart. I love their humor and their sexual chemistry. Wyatt Kinnison has protected his heart by withdrawing from people. His abandonment by his mother and a disastrous love affair have taught him that you can't trust women. During a winter storm he meets Aimee Worth, the town's second grade teacher. She gets his attention with her beauty, her positive attitude and her honesty. Aimee has her own personal heart ache. She has suffered the devastating loss of her sister. Their story is one you don't want to miss. Rugged Hearts is the first story in the Kinnison Legacy. I am anxiously awaiting the next book. I need to know all their stories.

The man just flat-out tugged at my heart strings and then filled my heart with joy. I guess I share these sentiments with Aimee Worth, second grade teacher in End of the Line, Montana. She and I were sisters of the heart throughout the entire soul awakening events for Wyatt Kinnison. Aimee Worth is the quintessential heroine who definitely goes above and beyond the call of duty. Aimee has experienced a major loss in her life but it's not keeping her down and her positive attitude rubs off on the reclusive Wyatt. There's no stopping Aimee once she sets her mind to shattering the walls around Wyatt's heart.Amanda McIntyre has written a very insightful look into the way "Love conquers all." She uses a strong heroine who has perfect backup in her second grade students to make the conquest and win the day. Ms. McIntyre always produces excellently written books with intriguing characters and heartwarming stories. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more stories in the Kinnison Legacy series.

By Denise Mingoia I sing in a choir, and there's no worse feeling than when the choir director asks you to solo and you can't because you're sick. There are guidelines here I'll be sure to utilize. I have several movie poster books, not a single one comes even close to this masterpiece. Every poster is beautifully restored where necessary (creases, pin holes, etc) and each movie has a little text about it. The book is massive, very well produced, great paper, slides into a heavy duty slipcase that even has a little string mounted inside so you can pull the book out easier. If you're into exploitation movies (and/or art) this is a must have. By far the best movie poster book from a production value, that I've ever seen. An other classic from FAB Press, they know what they do.

Beautiful By Quart45 Jones' text provides a nice history of exploitation cinema, while not complete by any means, showcases many of the heavy hitters involved in production and distribution. Limited appeal for the casual fan, but as a paper collector who owns many poster books, this is the absolute finest that I own.

Most of the posters in this book have been published on other books which I have in my collection and this book misses quite a lot of the best ones so in a way if it's true that he bought this poster's collection he didn't get the best one :D maybe that's why he decided to make a book so that he could get the money spent back. Silly me that I contributed but I will get rid of it as soon as I have an opportunity. It's heavy and big and it just take space on my shelves. For the ones interested in film poster there are so many titles out there, less pretentious and richer of images than this one. Hope this helps.

Beneath all the hilarity is a heartwarming tale and a sweet romance. Humans are worth saving!The Second Coming could benefit from some minor editing, but it's not so distracting I didn't finish the story.Over all, it is a good story.

The Second Coming By Maria A well-produced thought provoking book.I loved the concept behind this book and was intrigued by the idea of God sending his son down for one last chance to save humanity. One thing that surprised and impressed me is the author walked the thin line between the book becoming either pro or anti religious despite the obvious theme. This really is a "what if?" book.So young Jose Castillo from the Philippines has a year to gather a group of loyal followers to help him bring peace and harmony to the world and eliminate wars, greed, cruelty etc. Not a simple job hampered by him being knocked over by a bus in Manila and temporarily loosing his memory and the stakes are high. If the world doesn't change its ways God is going to destroy his flawed project.There is gentle humour in the book but it is not used maliciously, only to emphasis how ridiculous institutes and individuals can be. I'm not going to ruin the story but will say there is romance, an interesting twist at the end and the few parallels to the bible aren't the obvious ones. There are hints that one of the disciples will betray J.C. but that as well has a nice twist.For me, books don't have to have a point as long as they are entertaining but I did like the idea behind this book. Despite all our flaws and our capacity for conflict, greed, cruelty and violence we also have the capacity for love, compassion and forgiveness and overall that makes us worthwhile.A couple of niggles. The first I ask readers to bear with as this well produced book is worth a read but it does take quite a while "to get going." The second is I personally like a very tight punchy style of writing and I thought at times the writing could have been sharper.Overall an interesting "what if" read.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The Best "Second Coming" Book By Jennie This novel is an entertaining and lighthearted read with a serious message. The characters are endearing and well developed and the scenes painted with the clarity of an artistic word brush. Many of the events defy all reason and that is the point of the faith, hope and love that is the serious message. The attempt to reconcile all religions to save humanity from itself is a worthy endeavor. What if people took the simple message to heart? Evil, however, is relegated to a band of violent freedom fighters and the original sin of “human nature”, while the Catholic Church has benevolent bishops who embrace the second Jesus wholeheartedly. A somewhat overly optimistic approach in my opinion. Both this book and the Bible's book of Revelations, however, end with a marriage. The vision of heaven corresponds to the latest scientific theory of multiple universes, in which heaven is right here, right now, right next to us. We just can’t see it. This is a more realistic and refreshing view that the usual depiction of heaven and well done. The dashes instead of commas were a minor distraction. I highly recommend this book as a thought-provoking book and a fun read.

The bad old days of producing movies on an assembly line were numbered. Of course, this revolution didn't happen straight away. In fact, at the end of the decade, some major film-makers were still holding out against change. But for the first time, Hollywood really opened its doors to independent movie makers like Otto Preminger and Stanley Kramer. Yet at the same time, some of the old masters of movie-making were given the green light to produce more entertaining, more expensive and more personal productions. No less than 150 of the best and most interesting films of the 1950's are discussed in this book: Movies such as: The Actress, The Barefoot Contessa, The Caine Mutiny, Desk Set, The Enforcer, Funny Face, The Greatest Show On Earth, How To Marry a Millionaire, Ivanhoe, Jumping Jacks, The King and I, etc. Full cast and production credits are provided for all but a handful of these 150 movies. In fact, the print edition of this book runs to around 350 pages. In addition to the full production credits, each movie is also reviewed by the editor. Many of the film makers have also provided quotes from contemporary reviewers. Some of these quotes are surprisingly critical. The film industry is one of the very few big business organizations which will gladly provide critical reviews of their own products. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Anyway 30 By Chris Flick There are pleasures to be found in this collection of thoughts on movies of the 1950s, but they are random. In some cases the writer doesn't seem to even like the movie under discussion, so the title grabs you but is misleading. You will quickly realize what this book is not, but if you stick with it you will learn about some movies you've never heard of, primarily British, and you will learn an awful lot about the film distribution scene in Australia; which actually made for interesting reading.
