By Gian Andrea That's the kind of book I'm talking about!Here I found everything I love the most: relevant questions.Why does Time doom us in such a way, how far is the Universe expanding, is there an afterlife, and what really is Space, and God, and so on until the main question of all: why "something" instead of "nothing".As a philosopher myself, that can't help pondering on these kind of questions all the time, the book did hook me up.Although I don't agree with the author's thought, it was certainly worth to read.Plus hey, it's an ironic book, well written,that doesn't want to be deep, nor to preach around.I found pleasant even the way the author refers to himself in a third person. Five stars for me.

I get how each story Michael is killer as well as possible victim. I would like to see that change as well. But I can see more evidence build up against Michael for the detective. But I think of course down the line this will ultimately be the demise of Ronnie.

By Jerry Edwards I am a fan of the creative works of the Walt Disney Company but especially the early creative works of Walt Disney and his associates. It gets harder each year to read honest, factual information on Walt and his associates due to all the untrue rumors and "research" that is only a rehash of someone's previous incorrect "research". That is why I much look forward to every Disney book that is written by Jim Korkis. I own every volume of the series "The Vault of Walt" and it feels like Christmas every time I see a new volume offered for sale. His table of contents of this book is self-explanatory ... Jim continues to cover Disney historical information that I didn't even realize would be interesting to know. Once again, this book is a winner, full of well-researched and interesting stories about Walt Disney, the films, the theme parks, and other enjoyable stories. Anyone who enjoys reliable, entertaining information on Walt and his creative work and associates will be glad to have this book. Thanks, Jim - may there be many more volumes in the future!

Try the revised version) Vault of Walt came out, I just knew there had to be a sequel- so many tales left untold. Then, yes, there was a #2, then I was hoping for a Third- and yes, my wish was granted (Thanks Genie, do I still have two more?). But then, I thought- man, that's it, Jim can't possibly come up with a fourth volume of great "Unofficial Disney Stories Never Told".I was wrong. Here is the fourth volume in the series and it's chock full of Disney trivia goodness. It starts by detailing various homes, business locations and Walt Hang-outs- including the Tam O'Shanter. Not in the book, but two interesting facts about that eatery- they use C. C. Brown's hot fudge ( C. C. Brown's invented the hot fudge sundae, and The Tam still uses the tiny ewers of hot fudge you pour on yourself) and the fact that one table there has graffiti done (and carefully preserved) by Disney artists.Book Four then goes on to some interesting film stories including one I still remember from my youth- Jiminy Cricket and the "I'm No Fool!" series of educational shorts. Jim then tells us all about "40 Pounds of Trouble" and why it made a ton of trouble for Walt.Then onto the parks, where such nuggets of trivia such as the backstory behind WDW/MK Tomorrowland, the story of Body Wars, and yet now a fourth "plot-story" behind Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. Fascinating!We conclude by a whole hilarious chapter about pranks done by the Disney Animation Staff and all you ever wanted to know about the the man who was the Voice of Donald duck.Readable, a real page turner. A must get for those into Disney Trivia. Jim has done it again!

By Joseph Poka This bilingual version of Merchant of Venice works great as a connector from (A) a play with which one is thoroughly familiar to (B) its transalation into a language that one is learning, say, at an intermediate phase. I particularly liked the formatting with English on one side and the corresponding Italian on the other. You can read the Italian and if you get stuck on a word or phrase then the English is right next to you and the sense of continuity in your reading is retained. From a language learning perspective, reading a translated version weans one away from flash cards, lists of verbs and tedious grammatical explanatory clutter. You step out of a learning box and can start flying.Finally, what is ultimately fascinating, there are phrases and meanings that cannot be translated word for word but are in fact "transliterated", that is, an equivalent meaning is conveyed to the reader by a word grouping that does not lend itself to a word by word equivalency. You get to cross a lot of interesting bridges.

GARRISON KEILLOR is America’s favorite storyteller. For more than 35 years, as the host of A Prairie Home Companion, he has captivated millions of listeners with his weekly News from Lake Wobegon monologues. Each issue sees Veronica traveling to a new country--the culture and landmarks are well-researched with beautiful art depicting the unique locales. What's more, the Veronica we meet in these stories is much more fun, kind, and light-hearted than the snobby ice princess from Riverdale. In these stories she's away from Archie, Riverdale, etc and that proves to be a good thing. After about 15 issues they stopped the world-traveling version of this comic (unfortunately) and made the Veronica title interchangeable with all the others. While it lasted, Veronica visited France, Canada, Italy, Africa, Japan, Los Angeles and many more.

Divertida, de fácil lectura y profunda a la vez By Jim Peñaloza "Matar a un Ruiseñor" es una novela que te atrapa rápidamente, es divertida y con una mirada infantil. Personalmente me ha gustado mucho esta novela, la historia, la forma de contarlo, las situaciones y por otra parte esta lleno de frases conmovedoras y llenas de sabiduría como:“Los ruiseñores no se dedican a otra cosa que a cantar para alegrarnos. No devoran los frutos de los huertos, no anidan en los arcones del maíz, no hacen nada más que derramar el corazón, cantando para nuestro deleite. Por eso es pecado matar un ruiseñor.”La historia muestra el punto de vista de una niña llamada 'Scout' que va creciendo, aprendiendo y divirtiéndose con un padre ejemplar y muy apegado a sus valores pero en paralelo van sucediendo cosas muy complejas y difíciles de entender para un niño. Es una dura crítica a los sociedad de los Estados Unidos de los años 1930, donde el racismo es tan natural para la mayoría de las personas y lleva a las personas a situaciones aberrantes.

By Mrs Fantine Valjean Matar a un ruiseñor es una grandiosa obra que nos pinta una época marcada por perjuicios raciales. Me atrapo la maneraen como se desenvuelven los personajes junto con la historia. Creo que Harper Lee logro exitosamente desarrollar una tramacon una delicadeza juntando a la perfeccion las piezas de este rompecabezas. El personaje principal (Scout Finch/Jean Louise) es unode aquellos personajes con los que te encariñas. Me identifique mucho con Scout, por que a pesar de su corta edad, desarrolla desde tempranaedad un criterio de sentido común, y se hace preguntas acerca de la sociedad, que en ese tiempo, estaban marcadas por muchos criterios, entreellos el racismo. Sobre todo en la época de la gran Depresion en el sur de los Estados Unidos.Como mencione, Harper Lee da un mensaje mediante un desarrollo sutil. Scout junto con su hermano Jem, hacen travesuras en el barrio. Scoutnos relata su vida cotidiana, y poco a poco nos va narrando como es la sociedad por aquellos tiempos. De principio a fin esta historia es entretenida en todos los sentidos. El padre de Scout-Atticus, también juega un papel primordial en esta historia. El representa ese balance, la justicia, la ética moral.Sin duda, este es un libro clásico de la literatura estadounidense. Trate de tomar esta obra en parte como para mi propio entretenimiento, pero también con un punto de vista académico. No le encontré algún punto negativo. Es una historia maravillosa, con un mensaje claro. Hoy en día, no puedo imaginar como es posible que hace "poco", la sociedad estaba gravemente dividida socialmente! Recomiendo ampliamente este libro, es un clásico! No di las estrellas completas, por que no es mi genero favorito.

Finding the Exquisite Japanese Cheery Blossom in the World of Decay By milina jovanovic When it comes to Japanese cherries, they are blossoming for the sake of beauty itself, without producing fruit. Author Vjekoslav Radović masterfully uses this metaphor throughout his remarkable new novel. Radović’s main characters are somewhat nostalgic, but primarily they are realists. Most of them are quite aware that in today’s world “only evil multiplies without any difficulty and beauty is rarely found, sometimes completely infertile.” Like its Serbian title, the novel blossoms early and beyond expectations. It blossoms to paradoxically show its beauty and positive messages, while describing the lives of people who experienced a lot of suffering, loss of a country, and seemingly unsolvable situations in the United States. How can a story about the Serbian suffering, the destiny of Kosovo, typical lives of American immigrants, a lonely Serbian man whose main motivation in life is revenge, the Albanian mafia in the Bronx, and other depressing topics also contain so much positive emotion, including tenderness? For those of us who know Radović this is not surprising, but for many readers this can be a great discovery.We don’t have to wait for the spring to come and for Japanese cherry blossom festivals to celebrate the bravery and originality of ideas displayed in this novel. We can do that now. I would recommend to all readers to avoid reading plot summaries and let themselves be immersed into the reality of Radović’s characters. No summary does any justice to this complex and imaginative story. I was captivated immediately.The first pages of this novel contain a letter written by Veljko--the narrator. Just that letter alone could be published separately and analyzed for its wisdom and wit. Most of the action happens in New York, some in Belgrade, and other parts of the former Yugoslavia. Radović writes about the immigrant life in New York, the United Nations, and the dark corners of the Bronx, vividly and with authority. He himself lived in New York for more than two decades. At the moment only bilingual Yugoslav Americans can enjoy this novel, while the English translation is awaiting publication. I believe that it would be very important for wider circles of American readers to have an opportunity to read this story.We should give proper credit to Mr. Radović for tackling multiple unpopular and politically incorrect topics. Even though this is a work of fiction, it still takes bravery to write about the destiny of Serbs in Kosovo, terrorism, interests of the global empire, global connections of the Albanian mafia operating in Kosovo and in New York…The main (Serbian) character who grew up in Kosovo is presented as a complex individual, fully human. I believe that American reading audiences would benefit from being exposed to such complexity. This is a much needed effort to bring the humanity back to stigmatized groups, while resisting idealization as the other extreme. Mr. Radović took a risk of being misunderstood from all sides, including Serbian readers. In Serbia, this novel has received a warm welcome from diverse audiences and the prestigious NIN Award nomination.One idea communicated in this book deserves a very special attention. Radović’s characters tell us that there were invaluable advantages found in the Yugoslav way of life. They also tell us that even Albanians and Serbs could realize one day--especially if they are immigrants fighting for survival in a foreign land--that they have more in common than previously thought. At the beginning stages of immigration, most tend to think that there are many common values that would bring them closer to their host countries and the interests of the global ruling elites. But the more they get disillusioned about their lives in the most powerful countries, the more they think about what really brings people together. In this novel, Zoran and Agim talk about the specific scent of the soil in their homeland; something that goes deeply into people’s subconscious and transfers through DNA. They believe that kind of connection to the land and common experiences of their ancestors bind them together, despite all differences.All characters in Radović’s novel are very well developed. He deserves a special credit for his female characters. Most male authors are often unable to penetrate into the deepest secrets of the female soul, but Radović masterfully describes their intimate worlds.One of the chapters that I will remember the most is the one entitled Japanese Cherries. That chapter alone could be turned into an exciting movie with a love story in the center.As a writer myself, I had to laugh when Veljko warned his friends to behave because they could be described in his novel authentically, and therefore not very proud after its publication. If the written word still has this power, perhaps we should all think about this warning and continuously self-examine. Regardless of how we approach the power of fiction as a genre and the impact of the published word, many would recognize themselves in this story. It is a breath of fresh air and highly recommended.

The content is beyond the beyonds- a yard burning dad, rattletrap cars, feuds with friends and, my personal favorite, a trash can full of French Onion soup. Besides the side splitting content, the author is a gifted writer; Mr. Gooding draws you in and you can imagine yourself buzzing down the country roads of Bacon County, NC on your own drunk mobile-er-moped while dreaming of the dim bar lights of big city Greenville, NC. Life in Bacon County is a true Southern comedy. Read it, you'll love it!

Light, Funny and Distracting By Claire St. Hilaire I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this book courtesy of the author for the purpose of an honest review.Gagged & Bound 2 is fresh and funny. I enjoyed the clever puns and witty drawings. As an American I found some of the humor to be specifically British, but this didn't take away from the overall mood. It is a great collection of light-hearted humor and one-liners that I would recommend for an afternoon read or just for a few laughs on a busy day.

I preferred it the first volume, which I thought was very good. The jokes seem a little darker in places and there's a few that take a few seconds to sink in. The set up on some is a little convoluted but that makes them all the funnier in my opinion. Another volume for next Christmas Santa, if Mr Jones will oblige.

A Great Pictorial History of The Dead End Kids/Bowery Boys By Johnnery An excellent and lovingly rendered pictorial history of the Dead End Kids/Bowery Boys film legacy. As he did with his two previous books, Richard Roat plumbed the depths of what must be a veritable treasure trove of rare photos, to share many unforgettable images from the classic film series. The photos deserve to be preserved this way, and Richard has provided a great service to the films countless fans. I enjoyed this book very much, and would recommend it highly.

By Jennifer Heiler If you're looking for a pictorial history of the Dead End Kids and the groups that sprang from them look no further. The author covers the four movies series, as well as, the play Dead End where everything began. There are many studio portraits, scenes from the various Kids in solo performances, and even a series of portraits of Hollywood kids the average movie watcher has never heard of! If you're as interested in these Kids as I am, or you're just interested in a piece of Hollywood history, don't pass this book up. Mr Roat, could we possibly be looking forward to a part 4 at some point?

It mixes in elements from both worlds to make a delightfully entertaining and captivating story. I was hooked from the first chapter, always curious to see what would happen next.
