In the 13th century, under the command of Kublai Khan, the Mongols attempted to subjugate the Japanese by launching two attacks on the Land of the Rising Sun. But the invading forces were thwarted by extreme weather and forced to retreat by the kamikaze (The Divine Winds). This exciting comedy deals with a third invasion by the Mongols, under the command of Kipchak Khan. This fantasy attack, of course, never happened—except in the imaginary world of The Samurai Sword. The evil magician, Kuromoto, with the aid of Kipchak Khan’s Mongols, kidnaps the Princess Fujiko and hides her on Thunder Mountain, the abode of the Fire Dragon, who stands guard over her. Kuromoto convinces the Emperor to declare that the warrior who slays the Fire Dragon and rescues his daughter, the Princess, may have her hand in marriage. Kuromoto also conjures up the magic Samurai Sword of Tsuneyori, which he can use to kill the Fire Dragon. Then with his marriage into the Imperial Family, his magic sword, and his Mongol allies, he will control Japan. Michio is an orphaned Japanese youth who dreams of becoming a great samurai warrior. He gets his chance for honor, glory, and love when he sets out to rescue the Princess with the aid of his faithful pet monkey, who is actually the orphan girl, Matsuko, the only witness to Kuromoto's plot. Unknown to Michio, Matsuko has been transformed into a monkey by Kuromoto in order to keep her from revealing the magician's treachery. When Kuromoto casts the spell over Matsuko, he unwittingly turns her into a magic monkey possessing a pouch filled with magic dust. This magic dust, of course, could be used to transform her back into a girl. But because of her love for and devotion to Michio, Matsuko uses her dust to steal the magic Samurai Sword, which enables Michio to pursue his dreams and desires. Despite thwarting Kuromoto's designs, saving the Princess Fujiko from the Fire Dragon, and defeating the Mongols, the hero is not allowed to marry the Princess because it is learned that he is an orphan, and not really from the elite warrior class. In a magnanimous display of self-sacrifice, Matsuko uses the last of her magic dust—the remaining bit that could change her back into a girl—to make Michio's true identity known to the world. When the Imperial Family learns of Michio's true heritage, they are more than willing to allow the marriage—an action that will force Michio to make a choice between personal ambition and loyalty: give up either his pet monkey or the magic samurai Sword of Tsuneyori. This is one of the most singularly entertaining and satisfying reads I’ve done this year. Get ready to laugh out loud unashamedly on every scene of every act.Paul Turse is a 7th Degree Black Belt in Judo and 6th Degree Black Belt in Jujutsu. That probably explains the Martial Arts angle. The PhD in theatre arts from Columbia University explains his playwright expertise. But the humor, how does one explain a Martial Artist with such fine humor? I’m going to borrow a self-deprecating phrase from his website describing his photograph: “I'm Italian and from New Joisey. So, fugetaboutit!” Paul Turse is truly funny!The last time I read such sophisticated comedy was Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." Probably because of his stint with the US Army in Japan, Paul Turse can manipulate strange Asian cultural nuances so well that they look and sound truly funny to Westerners.Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing Turse of being the new Shakespeare. The Bard's plays remain in my mind as THE required classical reading. But, some of Shakespeare's stuff you can't understand without an Elizabethan dictionary. Turse’s stuff, though, is easy on your funny bone.The novelty here is reading a play as if it were a book. The visuals are enhanced to the point that it appears you are at a theatre performance. Think about it, this is a play that features Japanese culture based humor. That in itself should only interest cultural anthropologists. But Turse manages to get the average Joe to smile, chuckle, snort and roll over with laughter.The story is very original. Oh you find the ubiquitous dragons, samurais and princesses, but the author makes you laugh out loud conjuring an image of Feudal Japanese dudes with sunglasses, a sneezing cowardly warrior and a guy dressed in black fooling an emperor into believing he was his shadow. Truly genius!A well deserved Five Star rating!

The story does have a different tone though, which is refreshing. Lovely real discussions about fathers and daughters. I think every women reading it will relate to one of the characters and their experiences. Again a very smart and engaging book. Can't wait for the next book by Mr. Noel.

From the Author What is The Joshua James Project?Simply put, I'm offering up nearly ninety percent of my short plays and most of my full length plays (such as this one) to the public free of royalty for theatrical performances, under certain conditions. It's true; you can produce this work, FOR FREE, under the right circumstances. You don't have to pay a royalty or even write to ask my permission, you can simply just produce the play, as long the production meets the following conditions:   1)    It's a student or college production of less than 30 performances. 2)    It's an independent showcase where no one else gets paid and a run of less than 30 performances. 3)    Bottom line, if it's a short run and no one else gets paid, I don't need to get paid. If it's a longer run at a professional theatre and the actors, stage managers and stagehands are getting paid, then I expect to get paid, too.  There are requirements, which are as follows: 1)    Any program or publicity that features the title of the produced play must also feature my name as the author. More on that later.  2)    Don't rewrite it or change the text. You want to improvise, join an improv group. You want to do my play, then you must do it as it's written (there are some exceptions, which are noted in the individual play notes following each.)3)    Less than 30 performances by the same company in a single calendar year. And that's it, that's The Joshua James Project. I'm putting nearly all my work out there for you, the independent theatre artist. About the Author JOSHUA JAMES is a screenwriter, novelist and playwright based in New York City. His film credits include POUND OF FLESH, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. As a playwright, Joshua made his London debut when The Men’s Room was produced at the Croydon Warehouse Theatre. He made his Off-Broadway debut in The Fear Project at The Barrow Group with his piece Extreme Eugene. His plays have been produced throughout New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, all across the United States and various other parts of the world. Joshua loves ice-cold tea, cool summer breezes and hot Brazilian Jiujitsu, though not necessarily in that order.

Just reading it was a lot fun so I can only imagine how hilarious it would be on stage and in the hands of an energetic group of actors. I sincerely hope that artists everywhere take advantage of Joshua James’ generous offer to allow amateur and educational productions to be done royalty-free. I’ll be first in line for a ticket!

His stories in this wonderful collection are each in its own right part of that rhythm -- funny, edgy, poignant and brilliant just as he, the city's native son, is. This book and his earlier collection of poetry, My Name Is New Orleans, are sure to become classics. We are fortunate that despite Professor Arturo moving to Connecticut after Hurricane Katrina, the voices that inspire his prolific writing are still rooted in his formative years in the Crescent City. Note to the publisher: please add page numbers to the table of contents.

Greenland is an excellent author and treats his subjects with the respect they deserve, and I've admired Michael Landon since his Joe Cartwright days. What I learned from this book compounded my admiration. Landon, in real life, was a genuine and principled man, an artist who brought us quality entertainment. I now know that he was not only a fine actor, but also just as talented at directing, writing, and producing. He packed a lot of living into his short life and accomplished amazing things. Thank you, author Greenland, for this fine study of Landon's career.

I so loved reading it, as I am a huge fan of Michael Landon having grown up watching him as my TV dad on Little House on the Prairie! I loved seeing the other side of what he did other than acting. This is not a book about his private life, which the author readily admits, but the wealth of back stories about Michael Landon as they apply to his career achievements nearly refute that claim. One of the most scrutinized television personalities during the 1950s-1970s, Landon quietly progressed from actor to writer and director. The author aptly researched his career, interviewed many people associated with Landon, and overfills the book with revealing quotes and rare photos and illustrations. Sources are well-documented, and he rounds out the book with a detailed Filmography, title Index, General Index, and Bibliography. This is a superb package by the publisher, well worth reading.

That's heaven now, ain't it, Seth?" Audiences uniformly loved it when it was performed. Lines from it still follow me to this day. It is a play that reveals at once the crass exterior and sensitive interior of men. I makes you squirm, it makes you laugh, it makes you toast, "To men!"

By Delores The story was pretty good & I can see reading the next one hopefully, however several aspects of the story changed or dropped off mid-story. The character Leigh disappeared at a point you'd expect her to be apart of the story. Then all of a sudden Kate's cousin Kylie becomes her niece??? Last but not least, the ending fell a bit flat. Overall the story was a good one, I hope there is a second story that ties up some of the loose ends.

Kate is feminine strong and capable, Trent is hero male to the marrow.I found it impossible to put down once I fell in love with the characters and the suspense plot started to wind through the story.I love the style of this author, she cleverly and delicately winds characters and plots for me that have me wanting more. There is a believable quality to those she writes of in her books.The setting has me wanting to visit Kentucky and stay. If small town charm, hot romance and pace setting suspense is your thing ? I strongly suggest your purchase Protecting Kate.

I loved this book and could not put it down.Trent is a sexy horse trainer who has had a tough life but he is a wonderful man in spite of everything.He meets Kate a beautiful woman who was once a former Miss Kentucky. He saves her from a situation involving her ex-husband and a creepy politician. The politician wants to talk with Kate and she wants nothing to do with him. She is being auctioned off at a charity event and once again Trent saves the day. He sees her again and after their date he thinks that is the end of them.His friend RIck gets him involved in some work he is doing and Kate is connected. It's up to Trent to keep Kate safe. I loved the action in this book. Trent talked to Rick about starting a business where he can help people and brings in some of their military friends to help. This is the beginning of Dark Horse Inc. I can't wait to read more. I highly recommend this book.

It's a sweet story about a poor boy who is searching for love. He goes to Paris and meets some people who teach him to dance. The author gets the reader into a world of adventures and magic. I also like the illustrations from the book. These are inspired from original paintings.

A learning gift for my niece By Efrat Tenenbaum Well I bought this book actually for my 13 year daughter, but as I got driven by the title of the book and decided to read it same day. It’s a good book with a good moral and specially meant for kids. It has a nice message about nature love, helping others and smartness.After reading this book I decided to make it read for my daughter so that it can be proved fruitful for her. She also loved it and especially the character of Christian.
